Salvation of Self
Mediums sculpture; ceramic, wax, modeling chocolate & video art
The process of my work often begins with mediation on my faith and spirituality. This body of work is inspired by the Human Condition and the Soul. Each bust within the work represents different parts of one self in relation to the human existence and experience. The wax bust represents the passing of time within a life, and the physical suffering one endures in that lifetime. The chocolate bust represents the deterioration of self when one surrenders themselves to sin, allowing themselves to become consumed by the world. This is in relation to being preoccupied by worldly things, neglecting one’s higher purpose and salvation of soul. The ceramic sculpture represents the unchanging image of self- the Soul- which will endure beyond the physical and worldly self.
Currently undergoing serious medical issues and recently diagnosed with cancer, I began to reflect upon my own being and what I have prioritized- be it my physical, mental or spiritual existence. I find that is also reflective in this work. In return, the viewer is also invited to reflect on their own human experience and occupations and priorities within their life.
